ROOM 219

virtual extension of the ESL classroom

And the winner is …

From the editor John Turnbull:
“Judged in three areas – strength of ideas, effectiveness of language, and originality in composition – I would provisionally give the nod to the second entry, “Stop Possessing,” on the Room 219 site. Two turns of phrase especially won me over: “If women cannot play soccer because men will be watching, then let’s give them their own stadium” and “we shouldn’t take the freedom of others to have ours.” These are powerful formulations. Based on originality alone, I would have selected the first entry in dialogue with its interesting solution to the cleaning problem. It is the beginning of compelling drama.”

Congratulations to the finalists and the winners!
The first prize – The Global Game, signed by the editor – was awarded to the writer of the comment “Stop Possessing.”
The second prize – an archival copy of the promotional flyer for The Global Game, signed by the editor in 2007 – was awarded to the writer of comment #1.
